parents should tell the truth about Santa Claus 5 cheers

Of course, I have no authority with which to make this statement, but I think it’s silly to continue this stupid tradition of Santa Claus. I mean, what does Santa Claus mean anymore? What is the reasoning for this collective deception? Why do gifts need to be tied to the ethical behavior of children as judged by a fat white man in pajamas? Tell them that it’s in your hands, you hold the power over their puny lives, reindeer can’t fly, the North Pole is boring, chimney’s are dirty, and what the hell is lost? Nothing. What is gained? That boring conversation when they’re 6 or whatever. Even better if you can get your kids to smash the illusions of other fooled kids. Get it over with, and quick.

Was learning the truth a traumatic experience for you?

We didn’t do Santa growing up. We “played” Santa but we always knew the truth. My mother said she raised us that way because when she learned the truth at 7, it was like finding out there was no God. She couldn’t believe her parents lied to her, her whole life. And yes, growing up I “smash the illusions of other fooled kids” as you put it. I feel a little bad about it now.
